Artist Glenyse Thompson invites the community to explore the complexities of the Civil Rights Movement through her powerful new exhibition, "Passionate Courage." The opening reception will be held on Saturday, April 13th, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
“Passionate Courage” delves into the often-uncomfortable relationship between violence, pain, and beauty. Inspired by the courageous acts of resistance during the Freedom Summer Project, Thompson's work uses vibrant colors and evocative textures alongside archival materials to spark dialogue about the ongoing pursuit of justice and the power of individual action.
Through a unique blend of gold leaf, acrylics, ink, and historical documents, this series confronts viewers with the harsh realities of the Civil Rights Movement while also offering a message of hope and resilience. Thompson’s art challenges us to confront uncomfortable truths and find inspiration in the fight for equality.
